Dressed To Kill: Villanelle's Gayest Outfits Ranked
Villanelle, our favorite television assassin, has been killing the fashion game since Killing Eve first graced our screens in 2018. If you’re not already on the Killing Eve train—sorry, baby. You’ve got some catching up to do.
First of all, it’s hilariously on the nose that our sophisticated serial killer’s name has the word villain in it, but that’s just the start of this whimsical yet diabolical nightmare of a character. She is beauty, she’s grace, she’s gonna stab you in the face. She’s a queen among the antihero queens, but most importantly, she’s a powerful and complex queer character who is giving us breakout femme representation on the small screen. Villanelle’s charm and sexuality are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to reasons why we love this show. The real heart and draw is her flawless femme fashion—because let’s be honest, even when we have no idea what’s happening in this twisty, three season cat-and-mouse game, we’re all still watching just to gay-gaze at Jodie Comer.
As Season 3 of Killing Eve comes to an end, we celebrate Villanelle’s impeccable flair for fashion and take a look at some of her gayest outfits in the show’s history. Roll the tape!
15. Pink Tulle Dress With The Heeled Boots
The famous pink tulle dress that Villanelle wears in Season 1 of Killing Eve set the internet ablaze like no psychopath’s closet has ever done before. This look had women all over the world (and the spectrum of sexuality) instantly googling, “how to dress like Villanelle.” The outfit perfectly encapsulates our queer assassin’s edgy and childlike persona, but most importantly, it gave a shocking cultural reset to the phrase “dressed to kill.” What makes this look gay, you ask? Obviously the subversive, totally bitchin’ buckled-up boot. How she manages to pull this off is beyond me, but Jodie Comer kills it. (Pun intended.)
14. Coachella Gay
As someone who has gone to way too many outdoor concerts, I can assure you that this full-length floral dress and a matching crown is a femme’s dream festival outfit. Designed by a British brand literally called The Vampire’s Wife, the dress has officially been named The Villanelle Dress after the Queen of Queer herself.
13. Plaid on Plaid on Plaid
Maybe the shirt alone would have escaped our gaydar, but the mismatched plaid shirt on plaid pants combination worn by Villanelle in Season 2 is primo gay content. If the nautical star tattoo was used to identify lesbians in the 1940’s and 50’s, plaid is the new beacon for babes.
12. Pinstripe Blazer With The White V-Neck
As if we didn’t already know that Villanelle is the power top in this duo, this look happened. Villanelle sporting the classic white v-neck tee underneath a tall pinstripe blazer is obviously a look borrowed from the closet of Mayor Bette Porter. She walked so Villanelle could run.
11. Equestrian Blazer With Metallic Pants
This horse-print patterned blazer with power-clashing metallic silver pants is what the kids these days would call “a look.” Something about this pants + blazer + smirk combo exemplifies gay.
10. Brunch Bitch
We all know lesbians love cats, so the same rule obviously goes for oversized cat-eye sunglasses and ruffled leather tops. It’s the go-to garb for casually spying on your detective girlfriend from across the street of a Berlin cafe.
9. Suit In The City
Number 9 on our list of Villanelle’s gayest outfits happens to be Jodie Comer’s most prized pantsuit on set. What’s not to love about this patterned power ensemble strolling through the city? Turns out when you pair it with a green scarf from the suitcase of the girl you’re stalking, it makes for a fashionably queer getup.
8. Gardening Gay
Everyone knows the gays love to garden, and this khaki sun hat and waterproof jacket combination says Villanelle knows a thing or two about lily, rose, and jasmine. Is it her green thumb, or are those just the names of her three latest hook-ups? She’d tell you, but then she’d have to...well, you know.
7. Factory Femme
Throwing it back to all the Rosie the Riveters and femmes of the factories, Villanelle in denim dungarees is yet another trademark of lesbian fashion. Thrown together with a hair wrap and an oversized striped shirt, she is our quintessential artiste gay.
5. Professor of Women’s Studies
When Villanelle threatens Eve’s husband Niko at Oxford campus, she wears khaki trousers, a patterned tie, and a cable-knit cardigan tossed over the shoulder, seemingly to blend in with the academic crowd. Even when she’s trying to dress it down, our girl still dresses it up. We love us a Professor Villanelle. Plus, anyone in pants like that is gay. If they try to tell you otherwise it’s a rouse, and they might be out to kill you.
4. Pussybow And The Motorcycle
As a motorcycle-driving, pussy-bow wearing lesbian, I can attest that this pussy-bow wearing, motorcycling version of Villanelle is very, very gay. The dainty blouse plus the laced combat boots is just the power-clash we deserved. This look should hang in the MOMA. Classically gay!
3. Jet Black Suit With The Lacy Bustier
Season 3 of Killing Eve opened with a gasp -- and for once, it wasn’t because of a murder! But there was still a slaying, and that was Villanelle’s sleek and sexy outfit at her chance Spanish wedding. Wearing black, because of course, she updates the look of her classic tux with the bat-signal of lesbian fashion--the statement black bra under a sheer top.
2. Casual Bomber With The Pumped Up Kicks
Good luck showing me a gay who doesn’t have this outfit in their closet because the limit emphatically does not exist. It’s almost like when we left the closet, we all grabbed the nearest bomber jacket, ankle high sneakers and black jeans we could find. Even the femmes among us have some approximation of this outfit. It is Gay. It is Lesbian. It is Queer. It is… in my closet.
1. Green Cargo Pants, Birkenstocks, and Leather Cuff Bracelet
There’s so much to digest about this image, so we’ll give you a moment to absorb just how gay this ensemble is. Let’s start with the body language. When I saw this shot of Villanelle my first thought was, “Did Killing Eve hire a lesbian posture consultant?” Look at those hunched shoulders! Look at those unapologetically uncrossed legs! Body language aside, this look says, “I just took my girlfriend to Madewell and found a few things for myself.” The green cargo capris plus the Birkenstocks is a classically lesbian combination, but the leather cuff accessory takes this outfit to another level. Did you think our analysis stops there? Sorry, baby. That top button escapes no queer’s notice.
