Today Joe Biden announced he will name Pete Buttigieg as Transportation Secretary. The former mayor of South Bend, Indiana was once a political rival of Joe Biden, but the two have mended fences as the leaders of the Democratic Party seek unity.

If confirmed, Mr. Buttigieg will be the first openly gay person to serve in a President’s cabinet. Mr. Buttigieg also brings another quality in short supply: youth. He is one of the youngest high profile members of the Democratic Party, coming in at a downright springy 38 years old. He also claims to be a millennial, which may or may not be true, depending on your barometer.

Either way, Mr. Buttigieg’s appointment would be record breaking. Let’s see if he winds up being confirmed!
