LGBTea You Missed Last Week
Hello hello! Get your fix of the best and brightest queer news here:
1. Trans Day of Visibility happened, giving us all a reason to smile and celebrate our fellow queers! We reached out to TransAllies SA for interviews, education, and resources and with their help, wrote about Tips for Allies and Advocates of the Transgender Community.
2. One of our favorite musicians, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, released a quarantine themed music video! I know what you’re thinking, I’m sick and tired of Coronavirus memes, but her take on artistic zoom meetings is playful and definitely a bop.
3. Speaking of bops, the Lorde herself spilled some tea to a New Zealand radio station. When asked how she’s making it through quarantine, she revealed she’s spending this time with her girlfriend baking bread like the rest of us. Whether this was platonic or romantic, we stan!
4. Queer Singaporeans lost a battle last week after they took the law that criminalizes homosexual activity to court. Supremely disappointing and honestly, can’t believe this is still something up for debate. Get it together, Singapore.
5. Westworld, home of unfriendly bisexual hotties Tessa Thompson and Evan Rachel Wood, got kinda gay last week when Dolores cuddles with…? Honestly I’m not sure who that other robot was supposed to be, but Evan Rachel Wood big-spooning Tessa Thompson counts as gay to me. If you’re like us and have been wondering who the power top is in this duo, I invite you to take quick glance at this body language. We see you, Dolores.
6. In news that took FAR too long and I can’t believe is still a thing, the Food and Drug Administration lifted some guidelines aimed at gay men who want to give blood. Since the AIDS epidemic began in the 80’s, gay men have been discriminated against when trying to donate blood or plasma. This is STILL awful by the way, because now it’s okay only if you haven’t had sex with a man in the last three months. This rule is so arbitrary and it probably costs people their lives! If people want to help, let them help!
7. Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe, goddesses of athletic lesbians, are being adorable on the internet to cheer us during quarantine. If you are a sports averse gay, I highly recommend at least watching some highlights of these awesome women DOMINATE in their respective sports. These ladies are amazing #GOATs who hate Donald Trump—does it get better than that?
That’s it for this week’s LGBTea! Thanks for reading, and as always feel free to send us any comments or questions!
